Switzerland is considering easing military equipment export controls

Swiss parliamentarians recommend easing export controls on Swiss military equipment to help the local defense industry. Informs Freedom Matrix.

While Western neighbors are urging Switzerland to do more to protect Ukraine from Russian aggression, a commission from the Council of Cantons of the upper house of parliament is considering lifting some restrictions on the export of arms and military equipment.

However, it is assumed that strict criteria will be applied to ensure that Swiss military equipment is not used in conflicts, and the re-export of military materials to a country at war would be possible only in self-defense in accordance with international law.

The committee's recommendations will be communicated to the wider parliament next month, and any changes will not take effect until March 2024 at the earliest.
